History of Twin Orchard Country Club Twin Orchard Country Club was originally founded on May 20, 1924 as the “Chicago Golf Club”. The club was built on two farms located at Bryn Mawr Avenue & Wolf Road. The club consisted of 164 acres and included 2 large fruit orchards…. Hence, the change of name prior to opening to Twin Orchard. On July 8, 1924 Twin Orchard was incorporated in the State of Illinois. The first set of officers were elected and Mr. Lewis D. Levit served as the Club’s first president presiding over all thirty members. In 1947, the club was informed that its site was being considered for condemnation to make way for the proposed O’Hare Airport. A special committee was appointed to investigate the possibility of moving the club to another location and Mr. Samuel Hillman was appointed Chairman. He evaluated several possible sites and settled on the then sight known as Skycrest Estates. Mr. Gene Dyer, the owner at that time and the membership finalized the sale and the Twin Orchard move to Long Grove was completed in May of 1951. Since its rebirth in Long Grove, Twin Orchard Country Club has had continuous refurbishment and capital investment both in its magnificent clubhouse and on our two 18-hole golf courses which comprises of 250 acres of rolling fairways which allows magnificent views of Northern Lake County from some of the highest tees and greens in the area. In addition, an ongoing multi-million dollar golf course renovation program including the installation of a state of the art irrigation system was undertaken to ensure both courses maintain excellent playability, pleasing design and appropriate level of challenge for both men and lady golfers of varying handicaps. A major clubhouse project including the refurbishing of both the ladies and men’s locker rooms was recently completed, and the results today are that both environments provide unparalleled comfort and amenities that all of our members are extremely proud of. Our stunning Ballroom replete with dramatic crystal chandeliers allows our members to entertain their guests for weddings, private parties and club events in a Five Star Fashion. Today, Twin Orchard Country Club enjoys a wonderful reputation for beauty, comfort, elegance and camaraderie. Excellence in food service, quality and presentation has always been a Twin Orchard Hallmark. From wedding showers to Bar & Bat Mitzvahs to magnificent wedding celebrations and spectacular member events, Twin Orchard’s food service professionals work diligently to remain on the cutting edge of cuisine and creativity. Twin Orchard also caters to our tennis-playing members with our four championship clay courts and an active tennis program. Our Olympic size swimming pool and separate baby pool are popular destinations particularly for our members with younger children. The “The Magnificent Half Mile” drive from Old McHenry Road to the circle driveway in front of the clubhouse instills a sense of escape from worldly issues for the Club’s members, their families and guests.
